Sam SumNer
Head Baseball Coach
I am humbled and grateful that Horizon Christian chose me to lead their baseball program and I look forward to being a positive influence and helping to instill Christian values in our kid’s lives. I am married to my wonderful wife Tara and we have two children, Alexis and Grant, who have been part of the Horizon Christian family since kindergarten. I grew up in Lexington/Heppner, which is small town in Eastern Oregon which was a great place to grow up.
In high school I was two time All-State and selected to play in the Oregon State East/West High School All-Star Series. In 1994 I was selected as the East Outstanding Player of the Series. I played two years at Blue Mountain Community College and was selected to the NWACC All-Star game as a third base/catcher. I later attended Lewis Clark State College on full scholarship as a first base/outfielder. I then transferred during my senior season on full scholarship to College of Idaho where I was selected All-Conference and played right field on a team that won the NAIA National Championship. Our team was inducted in the College of Idaho Hall of Fame. After college, I played two seasons in minor league baseball as a right fielder, first base and catcher. I have been coaching youth baseball for about 15 years including coaching two season at Concordia University in Portland.
Our Baseball Team competes in the 3A-SD1 Special District 1 League.
